The LA Chargers dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14 behind solid performances from their backfield. The dynamic duo of Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler combined for a total of 52.1 fantasy PPR points in that game. Ekeler gained 101 yards on eight carries and added four receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. He finished as the No. 1 running back in Week 14. Melvin Gordon scored a touchdown and gained 55 yards on 12 carries and also added five receptions for 29 yards, finishing as the No. 11 running back in Week 14. Can these two build on that performance and produce for fantasy owners once again in Week 15? We break down the match-ups below.
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon has consistently gained more and more work out of the Chargers backfield since returning from his hold out earlier this year. He has had nearly twice the amount of carries as Ekeler since Week 10 and has remained relevant in the pass game averaging 2.8 receptions per game on the year. The Vikings are a much tougher match-up than the Jaguars, with the 11th ranked run defense in the NFL, allowing an average of 4.2 yards per carry and an average of only 101.8 yards rushing per game. Despite the tough match up, Gordon has provided consistent value at the running back position each week, with plenty of touches and loads of talent. Upside may be limited in this game as the Vikings have only allowed five rushing TDs on the season. However, with such a solid floor, odds are, you’re going to regret leaving him on your bench in the playoffs.
Austin Ekeler
Those who feared Ekeler would lose his value with the return of Gordon have been pleasantly surprised over the past few weeks. While his carries out of the backfield have diminished significantly, Ekeler has managed to average 5.6 receptions per game over the course of the season. That stat holds a huge amount of value for PPR leagues. In a match-up against a stingy Vikings run defense, the Chargers will likely look to keep Ekeler involved in the passing game. While the Vikings have only allowed five rushing TDs on the season, they have allowed 22 passing TDs. Given his prowess as a receiver, Ekeler may get an even share of the pie in the Chargers backfield in this match-up.

Start Gordon
