Rookie quarterback Drew Lock started his career with a bang, throwing two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Chargers, both to Courtland Sutton. After those two quick scores, the shine wore off as Philip Rivers and the Chargers slowly worked their way back into the game.
Rivers found Keenan Allen and Mike Williams often, as he brought his team back from the brink, and eventually tied up the game with 14 seconds remaining. But the Chargers, well, they lose close games with extreme consistency and they always seem to find new and inventive ways to do so.
This week it was on a pass interference call that set up Brandon McManus for a 53-yard field goal attempt with no time on the clock. There was little doubt he would make it and he did,
The fantasy Gods did shine down favorably on Sutton, as he caught those two touchdowns and ended the day with four receptions for 74 yards. Sutton has been a stud this year on a team that doesn’t have a good quarterback or an offense that airs the ball out. He is going to be good for a long while.
On the other side of the field, Mike Williams made some unbelievable receptions as he caught 5-of-7 targets for 117 yards. His ability continues to show itself, but consistency has been his trouble. The fact that Keenan Allen and Hunter Henry are both there to take work away is a big reason, but his stock will continue to rise.
