The NFL is rolling through Week 13, and we have the first playoff berth clinched. The New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving to secure the NFC South division title. The San Francisco 49ers had a shot to clinch a playoff berth, but a loss in Baltimore means they have to wait at least another week. The New England Patriots have a shot if the Oakland Raiders lose.
We’ll follow along today and through Monday Night Football with how each result impacts the playoff race — well, the games that can actually impact it. That’s followed by an updated look at the playoff picture in each conference.
Sunday Night Football result
Texans 28, Patriots 22: New England tried to come back late, but came up short. The Ravens move into the No. 1 seed following the Patriots loss, while the Texans remain the No. 3 seed. The Patriots face the Chiefs in a huge Week 14 matchup next week, while the Ravens travel to face the Bills.
4:05/4:25 p.m. results
Raiders 40, Chiefs 9: So much for Oakland’s chances at the AFC West. They dropped to two games back with four games to go and lose the tiebreaker to Kansas City. Fortunately for Oakland, they host the 7-5 Titans in Week 14, with a chance to cut into the wild card lead.
Rams 34, Cardinals 7: LA will be watching Monday Night Football intently as the Seahawks host the Vikings. Those are the two wild card teams ahead of the Rams, with the Rams hosting Seattle next week on Sunday Night Football. A Vikings win is probably a bigger help, but either way the Rams live to fight another day.
1:00 p.m. results
Ravens 20, 49ers 17: It was a fun game in the potential Super Bowl 54 preview. The Ravens won it late with a field goal in the closing seconds. If the Patriots lose Sunday evening, the Ravens take over the No. 1 seed. For the 49ers, if the Seahawks beat Minnesota on Monday, Seattle moves into the top seed and San Francisco drops to the fifth seed.
Titans 31, Colts 17: The Titans blew this game open late starting with a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown. With the win, the Titans remain tied for the second wild card berth, and could move into a tie with Houston if the Texans lose Sunday evening.
Steelers 20, Browns 13: The Browns playoff hopes are officially on life support. Pittsburgh edged them out in an ugly one and the Steelers are tied with the Titans for the second wild card berth.
Dolphins 37, Eagles 31: The Eagles blew a huge opportunity to move into a tie with the Cowboys atop the NFC East. Instead, they lost to Miami and remain a game back of the Cowboys in the division.
