Reports: Matt Breida will NOT play in Week 13

We break down the latest news surrounding 49ers running back Matt Breida, and the fantasy football implications for Week 13.

UPDATE: Schefter is now joining Rapoport in reporting Matt Breida will not play in Week 13. Schefter tweeted that, “49ers want a fully healthy Breida for New Orleans next week, so he will be out today vs Ravens.”

The San Francisco 49ers face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13, and national media are not entirely sure if running back Matt Breida will return from his sprained ankle. Early every Sunday morning, Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport tweet out updates about key players on the injury list. Schefter tweeted at midnight that Breida is expected to play. Rapoport tweeted at 4:17 a.m. that Breida is not expected to play.

Breida sprained his ankle in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks and missed the past two games. He got in three limited sessions this week and is listed as questionable on the final injury report.

Fantasy football analysis: 49ers RB Matt Breida

If Breida is able to play, he would serve as a complement to Tevin Coleman in the 49ers backfield. The Ravens have given up the eighth fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. Breida would have some PPR value, but would be more limited in standard leagues.

If Breida is unable to play, Raheem Mostert would get the work behind Coleman. His ceiling is lower than that of Breida’s and would not be worth starting behind Coleman.
