Going into last week’s game against the Bengals, Vance McDonald had three straight games of seven targets, but then he saw just one target in Cincinnati and caught it for one yard. Gotta love those 1/1 lines.
McDonald hasn’t come close to his potential this year even though he’s remarkably stayed healthy. The loss of Ben Roethlisberger is the key of course, as McDonald’s biggest yardage game was against the Patriots in Week 1 with Roethlisberger at the helm. Forty yards isn’t much of course, but you get the picture.
Fantasy football analysis: Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald
Against the Browns in Week 11 he caught 3-of-7 targets for 33 yards and hasn’t hit 40 yards since Week 1. His only value has come when getting into the end zone this year, which has happened three times but in just two games.
The Browns have been weak against tight ends, allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game but it is hard to feel good about McDonald’s chances after his one target last week when Devlin Hodges took over mid-game. Hodges could end up being an upgrade for McDonald, but McDonald only had one target when Hodges started against the Chargers in Week 6 and the one target last week. He’s super risky, especially with no bye weeks in Week 13.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit McDonald.
