What to do with Derek Carr in Week 10 fantasy football

Raiders QB Derek Carr is on a roll the past three weeks, but is he worth a start on a short week against a division rival? We break down the fantasy football considerations in Week 10.

Slowly but surely, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is developing some consistency. He’s had an up and down career, and the first five weeks of the 2019 season exemplified that. He had a pair of two touchdown games, but struggled with three interceptions. Over the past three weeks since returning from the team’s bye, Carr has thrown for at least 285 yards and two touchdowns each game. In that time, the Raiders are 1-2 but showing some signs of life and in the middle of the AFC wild card picture.

Week 10 Thursday Night Football brings their biggest matchup to date. The Raiders host the Los Angeles Chargers with the two teams battling to hang around. The Raiders are 4-4 while the Chargers are 4-5. Neither is eliminated from playoff contention with a loss, but it’s as close to a must-win for the Raiders as it can get.

Fantasy football analysis: Raiders QB Derek Carr

The Chargers have been pretty solid against quarterbacks this year, giving up the seventh fewest fantasy points to the position. Most notably, last week they held Aaron Rodgers to 161 yards and one touchdown. They struggled the first three weeks of the season, but since then, Ryan Tannehill is the only quarterback to throw for two touchdowns against them.

Carr has scored at least 15.7 fantasy points each of the past three weeks. The return of Tyrell Williams has been a boost, and running back Josh Jacobs is playing out of his mind right now. Carr is not a great start this week against the Chargers, but he’s not the worst option. In two-QB leagues he’s a must start. In one-QB leagues, he’s closer to a fringe starter. If you have injury or bye week issues, he’s worth considering.
