Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens got a huge win in Week 9, beating the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football, climbing to within a game and a half for the best record in the AFC. Jackson did not put up huge yardage totals, but for key stretches the Patriots defense could do nothing to stop him. He finished the game with 163 passing yards and 61 rushing yards, and he added one passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. That coupled with a strong defensive effort and big Mark Ingram gains on the ground generated the victory.
2019 NFL MVP odds
We still have one more game left to close out Week 9, but DraftKings Sportsbook has updated MVP odds — and Lamar Jackson is surging. Russell Wilson has moved back atop the leaderboard at +250, but Jackson climbed to second, improving his odds from +600 to +350. Aaron Rodgers was the leader last week at +250, but he has dropped to +600 after an awful offensive effort against the Chargers.
Wilson had a monster game to lead his Seahawks to an overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He threw for 378 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime to Jacob Hollister. Wilson’s MVP chances likely will improve moving forward as he now will have Josh Gordon among his wide receiver corps. The Seahawks claimed him off waivers on Friday, and while he did not play on Sunday, he passed his physical and appears set to play in Week 10 Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.
Week 10 matchups
That is arguably the biggest matchup of Week 10. Wilson and the Seahawks travel to the Bay Area for the contest, and face a surging 49ers squad. The 49ers are the last unbeaten team, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has climbed up the MVP leaderboard himself. He now has the ninth best odds at +3000. He was at +5000 before his big Thursday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers are a 6.5-point favorite over the Seahawks.
Jackson and the Ravens travel to face the Bengals in Week 10. The Bengals may or may not have A.J. Green back for the game, but given the state of their defense, this should provide a chance for Jackson to pad his stats. The Ravens are a ten point favorite over Cincinnati.
Rodgers and the Packers have a huge matchup in their own right, hosting the Carolina Panthers. Kyle Allen is looking like he will remain the Panthers starter the rest of the season barring a turnaround in Cam Newton’s rehab. Carolina has won five of their last, and Green Bay enters this game as a 5.5-point favorite.
