The New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East matchup to close out Week 9. The Cowboys are 4-3 atop the division, while the Giants are 2-6. The Giants started their season taking a 35-17 beating in Dallas and look to keep some playoff hope alive on Monday Night Football.
Both teams are getting healthier coming into this matchup. The Giants have been without Sterling Shepard, who suffered a head injury in Week 5, his second in a four-week span. That looks like it will change on Monday night, as Shepard shed his non-contact jersey in practice and put in a full workload Thursday. Amari Cooper has been dealing with ankle and quad injuries, but the bye week looks to have done him some good, as he is practicing in full this week and should be at his healthiest in a while. We’ll find out if there are any surprises when inactives come out at 6:50 p.m.
There are plenty of start/sit decisions to consider for both teams. Daniel Jones is coming off a QB1 fantasy performance against the Lions in Week 8. Still, this week, he’ll face a Cowboys defense that has limited opposing signal-callers to an average of 12.2 fantasy points per game. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Saquon Barkley, and Evan Engram are all must starts, but Michael Gallup, Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, and Jason Witten make for more difficult dilemmas.
Matchups are crucial, but it helps to see what the analytics are saying about potential performances. Looking at ESPN fantasy projections, Ezekiel Elliott has the highest projection at 21.7 with Dak Prescott and Saquon Barkley close on his heels at 19.1 and 19.7 fantasy points, respectively. With Sterling Shepard looking like he will play this week, he’s projected at 11.8 points, ahead of Golden Tate and Darius Slayton.
Dallas has the better quarterback and defense, giving them the edge on the road. They are favored by 7.5 points in the third-highest over/under game of the week at 48 total points. There should be room for multiple fantasy players to reach value in this primetime game.
