The NFL is into the late afternoon stretch of the Sunday schedule, and we have a few names of note on the injury report. We have a few big offensive names, and a host of smaller names that will impact fantasy football waiver wire decisions.
We’ve still got the second half of the late afternoon games, and Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football to go, so this list could grow. But in the meantime, it’s time to start considering your waiver wire options for Week 10 of your fantasy football leagues. Below is a rundown of notable injuries, and who stands to benefit as you consider what to do with your waiver wire priority.
Jacoby Brissett, QB, Colts
The Colts lost quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a knee injury in the second quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was officially designated as questionable to return, but Frank Reich inferred at halftime that Brissett was not going to return — and he didn’t. After the game, Reich described it was a knee sprain and “MCL-ish,” according to reporter Kevin Bowen. Brissett will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the degree of the sprain.
Brian Hoyer replaced Brissett and would seemingly take over as starter if Brissett has to miss any more time. Hoyer finished the game completing 17 of 26 passes for 168 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. He is not worth adding in the short term.
Adam Thielen, WR, Vikings
Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen was a question mark heading into the game due to a hamstring injury suffered two weeks ago. He sat out Week 8 due to a short week turnaround, but felt good to go in Week 9. He proceeded to aggravate that injury in the second quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs after only one target. Pam Oliver reported that Thielen mouthed “I’m done” after suffering the injury.
Stefon Diggs is the Vikings lead receiver, but wide receiver Laquon Treadwell got a bump in Thielen’s absence. He was targeted five times and caught three passes for 58 yards. Tight end Irv Smith was targeted six times and tight end Kyle Rudolph was targeted five times. Bisi Johnson got two targets and seems to be behind Treadwell at this point.
DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
DeSean Jackson suffered an abdominal strain in Week 2 and had been sidelined ever since. He returned in Week 9 and proceeded to aggravate it in the first half. He caught his one target for five yards, but then found himself in and out of the game. He eventually went to the locker room and was later announced as questionable to return. They have a bye in Week 10, so we’ll see what Doug Pederson has to say about DJax’s timeline to return.
Preston Williams, WR, Dolphins
It was a productive but rough day for Dolphins wide receiver Williams. He suffered a wrist injury and returned to the game, only to leave later with a knee injury. He finished the day with five receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns. He will get the knee looked at before we hear more about his status for Week 10.
