Chris Herndon fantasy football start/sit advice

This is a tricky situation. The Jets are all sorts of banged up, so it’s possible Herndon will be limited and is just an extra body to have active. He’s got tremendous upside, but he also hasn’t played a regular season football game since the end of last season. At most positions it would make sense to keep him on your bench to see what he looks like in his season debut. However, the tight end position is incredibly weak after the top few players. You are best inclined not starting him, but if you’re short-handed, he’s the better start over Griffin this weekend.

Chris Herndon game status update

In slightly surprising news, the Jets have announced that tight end Chris Herndon is ACTIVE for Week 9. He was a question mark and Adam Gase was not optimistic about his chances of playing. It would appear his pre-game workout went well. Ryan Griffin is no longer a good starting option. Herndon is a gamble, but if you’re lacking at the position on your fantasy football teams, he’s got upside over Griffin.

The New York Jets travel to face the Miami Dolphins in an ugly Week 9 contest that offers little to fans outside of fantasy football and sports betting. Both teams are competing for a top draft pick, although it’s hard to see Miami winning any games any time soon.

The Jets are likely to be without tight end Chris Herndon for another week. Herndon suffered a hamstring injury the last week of his season-opening four-game suspension, and has been able to go since. He was limited all week in practice once again, and head coach Adam Gase suggested Herndon was not yet ready to go, according to beat writer Zach Braziller.

If Herndon does not go, Ryan Griffin will get another start in his place. He’s coming off his best game of the season, catching four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Two weeks prior he had three receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown.

Griffin has had the two big games, but otherwise has been quiet. His other five games he has a total of six catches for 18 yards. The Dolphins don’t do much even average, but they’ve actually defended tight ends fairly well. They’ve given up the 14th fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season, which given how bad they are at everything else, is of some note.

The tight end position lacks any real depth, so if you’re short-handed, Griffin is a waiver option. He’s not a great one, but sometimes you just need a body at the tight end position that will get some targets. He should, so that’s something.
