3 teams that improved Super Bowl 54 odds the most heading into Week 13

The landscape of the National Football League changes every week. Where we thought teams lined up before Week 1 can (and usually does) end up being completely different to where they actually end up come Week 17. But all teams are focusing on one goal, even if it calls for a season to be tanked in the meantime. Everyone is aiming for the Super Bowl. And that’s exactly what we’ll focus on here. Every week, I’ll highlight three teams that most improved their Super Bowl winning odds.

Week 12 is a wrap and we’re now headed into Week 13, so let’s get started. All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook.

Houston Texans (7-4, +3000)

The Texans recovered from their big blowout against the Ravens by winning 20-17 over the Colts on Thursday. The win gave Houston the division lead heading into December. The confidence was rebuilt, and all it took was getting Will Fuller (seven catches for 140 yards) back in the lineup to open up some space for DeAndre Hopkins (6-94-2). The Texans’ Super Bowl odds have shortened from +4000 (T-11th-shortest) to +3000 (10th-shortest).

That confidence is going to have to really shine this week as they host the AFC-leading Patriots on Sunday Night Football. They are undoubtedly the Texans’ toughest remaining opponent, but that’s not to say Houston has a cakewalk moving forward. With two games to play against the 6-4 Titans, getting any more losses could cost them their season. Not to mention the Colts and Titans battle it out this week to put even more pressure on Deshaun Watson. But hey, this is where great quarterbacks are made.

Seattle Seahawks (9-2, +1000)

Russell Wilson and the Seahawks just keep winning and, in turn, putting the pressure on the 49ers. In Week 12, Seattle visited Philly to extend the streak to four wins. Though it wasn’t a flashy game, the Seahawks got the job done by shutting down the Eagles offense. This marked the first time all season that the Seahawks held an opponent under 10 points, which is exactly the momentum you want as the playoffs approach. Seattle’s odds were trimmed from +1400 (7th-shortest) to +1000 (5th-shortest), jumping ahead of Green Bay and Kansas City.

The bad news? The Seahawks still have a very challenging schedule in front of them. The next two: Vikings on Monday Night Football and Rams on Sunday Night Football. The good news? If the Seahawks beat the Rams, regardless of the outcome in Week 13, that will likely solidify a Wild Card spot. Seattle on the road will be a scary matchup for any playoff team, especially considering its undefeated away record this season.

San Francisco 49ers (10-1, +600)

The 49ers kept pace with the Patriots by taking down the NFC North’s best team on Sunday night. The 37-8 victory over the Packers is the seventh double-digit win for the Niners this season, something that the Patriots have also accomplished. Getting George Kittle back on the field proved to be a huge plus for Jimmy G, hitting his tight end for six catches, 129 yards and a touchdown. San Francisco’s Super Bowl odds shrunk from +700 to +600, staying in 4th for shortest odds.

At 10-1 with the offense and defense rolling, the Niners are looking like one of the most lethal teams as we inch closer to the postseason. A Week 12 win and a Rams loss would clinch a playoff berth, something the 49ers haven’t done in six seasons. Unfortunately, they’ll have to work for it. San Francisco travels to Baltimore to meet Lamar Jackson’s virtually unstoppable offense. The man has been shredding the league’s best defenses and will have the opportunity to do the same this week. Not to put Belichick on blast, but this is the perfect time for the Patriots to activate their sleeper agent, Jimmy Garoppolo, to hand the Ravens their third loss of the season.
