It’s rare that we have a QB readily available on the waiver wire who was the top scorer at his position from that particular main slate on Sunday. Well, we have that scenario playing out in Week 12 and there are a handful of available quarterbacks who have favorable schedules for the stretch run into your playoffs. Let’s take a look at a few.
Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (14.9 percent owned on ESPN)
Tannehill had perhaps the best game of his NFL career this week vs. the Jaguars. He had nearly a perfect passer rating, completing 14-of-18 passes for 259 yards and two scores, while also adding 40 yards and another two scores on the ground. Tannehill led all QBs from Sunday with 32.4 fantasy points — if you saw this coming go play the lottery right now. Normally I’d chalk it up as a fluke and Jacksonville being miserable this season, but Tannehill has a couple of softer matchups (@ IND, @ OAK, vs. HOU) the next three weeks, so if you’re desperate in deeper formats, he isn’t a bad option. Between RB Derrick Henry and WR A.J. Brown, Tannehill has some solid talent around him on offense.
Sam Darnold, New York Jets (18 percent)
Right behind Tannehill in terms of QB scoring this week was Darnold, who picked apart the Raiders at home. Darnold completed 20-of-29 passes for 315 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for a TD, finishing with a season-high 28.3 fantasy points. It was his second straight week with at least 25 FPTS, plus Darnold and the Jets have a cakewalk of a schedule the next two weeks: at the Bengals and home vs. the Dolphins. It wouldn’t surprise me if Darnold showed up big for those two games, though the Jets face the Ravens in Week 15, which is less than ideal. But still, two more weeks of 20+ points from Darnold is all we can ask for.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Miami Dolphins (5 percent)
Man, who would have thought I’d jam in three QBs all linked to the AFC East in one article? I sure didn’t. Fitzmagic and the Dolphins aren’t a complete joke like everyone thought they’d be this season. The Bengals showed them up in that category. But with the way Miami is playing, the game scripts are perfect for Fitz. He posted 214 yards passing with two TDs and two INTs, but had 45 yards on five carries with a TD to finish with 23.1 fantasy points Sunday in the loss to the Browns. Again, schedule is a big factor here: vs. PHI, @ NYJ, @ NYG, vs. CIN to round out the next four weeks. Hell, the Dolphins can win all four of those games. Fitzmagic isn’t a bad streaming option or handcuff in case your top QB gets hurt before the playoffs.
