Pete Carroll using gut feeling in deciding Rashaad Penny, Chris Carson playing time

The Seahawks running back situation is a difficult one for fantasy football players to sort out. We break down the implications heading into Week 13.

The Seattle Seahawks backfield is looking impressive for basic football purposes, but Week 12 has officially turned it into a fantasy football quagmire. After failing to meet high pre-season expectations during the first half of the season, Rashaad Penny broke out in a big way against the Philadelphia Eagles. Penny led the team with 14 carries for 129 yards and a 58-yard touchdown.

Penny got a boost in playing time because Chris Carson has struggled with ball control. Head coach Pete Carroll acknowledged the issues Carson is facing while also pointing to his value moving forward. Carroll would not offer much in the way of clarity as to how the backfield workload would shake out.

Fantasy football analysis: Seahawks RBs Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny

The Seahawks face a stout Vikings run defense in Week 13 that has given up the fifth fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. Pete Carroll’s “gut feeling” about playing time makes this a difficult situation. Penny will be a popular waiver wire addition, but anybody who thinks they know what Week 13 will bring for him and Carson is either guessing or trying to pull a fast one on you. We’ll have to track Pete Carroll’s comments over the coming week and try and parse what we can from it.
