Raiders blown out by Jets, falter in playoff chase

The Oakland Raiders came into Week 12 on a three-game winning streak with a 6-4 record. After the Texans beat the Colts on Thursday night, Oakland took the lead for the last wildcard spot, and they were on their way to face the Jets and their 3-7 record. Unfortunately, that was the last bit of good news they had, as the Jets stomped them into the field, leaving little trace of an NFL caliber football team.

The Raiders actually led in this game, as they kicked a field goal on their first drive, but it was all downhill from there. Sam Darnold rushed in a four-yard touchdown, then threw a one-yarder to Ryan Griffin and then another one-yarder to Robby Anderson to take a 27-3 lead midway through the third quarter. But the nail in the Raiders coffin was a pick-six thrown by Carr at his 15-yard line to make it 34-3 with six minutes left in the third quarter, which ended up as the final score. After that, quarterback Mike Glennon came in as Carr’s stunt double.

Oakland needed this win against a beatable team, as their schedule gets more difficult, as they face the Chiefs in Kansas City next, then back home to take on the Titans then Jaguars, then back to the road against the Chargers and the Broncos. Kansas City is by far the toughest team, which will more than likely put them at 6-6.

There is still hope for a wildcard, as they do have a win over the Colts, who will be their main competition. The Steelers look awful, so there is a chance they can beat them out for a spot, but we could see a surge from the Titans Browns or even Jacksonville. Thankfully for the Raiders, the wildcard remains wide open, but they can’t feel good about their team after this embarrassing loss.
