Best daily fantasy football tight end plays over $4,000 in Week 9

The best tight ends to include in your DFS lineups if you’re willing to spend the cash.

The tight end position in daily fantasy is more or less a barren wasteland. Sometimes you can strike gold and get lucky starting someone who’s cheap (I did such thing last week with Jonnu Smith), but for the most part, if you want reliable production from your tight ends, you gotta pay for it.

So, here are three tight ends, over $4,000 who are worth spending your budget on because their matchups are just too darn good to pass up. (Salaries via DraftKings.)

Darren Waller (vs. Lions) - $6,300

We all know Waller is a baller (it’s literally in his name) and now that he’s discovered how to score touchdowns, well, the rich just get richer. Waller has only scored under double-digit fantasy points twice this year and I assure you that’s no threat to happen this week. The Lions are giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends over the past four weeks and have allowed a touchdown to the position in the past two games. I expect this game to be pass heavy on both sides and that means Waller has a chance for plenty of targets and plenty of chances to score.

Hunter Henry (vs. Packers) - $6,000

Henry has been one of the few bright spots for the Chargers since returning from injury. In his first three games back, he’s caught 18 balls on 23 targets for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Even with the Chargers facing an offensive overhaul, I’d still expect Henry to be a key fixture in their passing game. And he couldn’t ask for a better matchup this week as the Packers are giving up the seventh-most points to the position this season and just allowed Travis Kelce catching balls from Matt Moore to go for 63 yards and a score on them last week. I’m confident Henry will provide similar production.

Zach Ertz (vs Bears) - $4,700

I’m really picking on the NFC North this week, but I guess they just can’t cover tight ends. The matchup is certainly a favorable one — the Bears are allowing the 10th-most points to the position — but I’m putting Ertz here more because of the return of DeSean Jackson than because of his matchup. It’s been tough sledding for Ertz and the entire Eagles offense the last month or so and much of that hopefully comes down to missing a true deep threat to open up the field for everyone else. With Jackson set to return this week, I expect Ertz to find a lot more open space to operate in.
