Nagy: Mitchell Trubisky hip injury was affecting his throws

Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky was removed late in Week 11 for what is described as a hip injury. We break down the fantasy football and betting implications heading into Week 12.

The Chicago Bears made a quarterback change in the fourth quarter of Week 11 Sunday Night Football, removing Mitchell Trubisky from the game. Chase Daniel replaced him for the final 3:31 with the team down 17-7. The move initially looked like a benching, but the Bears announced that Trubisky had a hip injury and was questionable to return.

After the game, head coach Matt Nagy said that Trubisky landed on his hip earlier in the game and it was impacting the way he was throwing the ball.

“[The change] was all based off he wasn’t feeling right. His hip was hurting him,” Nagy told reporters. “We knew a few series earlier that something wasn’t right. We watched him to keep an eye on him and see how it was. I had to go on the side and talk to him. ... He needed to be honest with us and trying to play through that is what he was doing.”

At the time of the change, Trubisky had completed 24 of 43 passes for 190 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Daniel finished the game with nine yards on one of four completed passes.

Fantasy football analysis: Bears QBs Mitchell Trubisky, Chase Daniel

Trubisky has regressed in a big way and the offense has suffered across the board. Allen Robinson has been moderately productive and David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen have gotten plenty of volume even if they have struggled to do much with it. Daniel replaced an injured Trubisky (shoulder) earlier in the season and started one game in his place. He had two touchdowns and 231 passing yards against the Raiders. He’s not a downgrade at this point, but he’s also not much of an upgrade. The offense remains problematic.

Betting analysis

The Bears face the New York Giants in Week 12 and the point spread has come off the board at DraftKings Sportsbook due to the injury. The Bears opened as touchdown favorites, but that line might change modestly with the injury. It shouldn’t be a big move, but considering Trubisky’s struggles, maybe we see an even higher line.
