49ers activate tight end, indicating George Kittle out for Week 10 MNF [UPDATE]

The 49ers will announce inactives at 6:50 p.m., but in the meantime, they made a move that suggests George Kittle will not be playing. We break down the fantasy football implications.

The San Francisco 49ers will make it official when inactives are released, but we can say with little doubt that tight end George Kittle will not be playing tonight on Monday Night Football. The team has activated tight end Garrett Celek from the reserved/PUP list.

Kittle injured his knee last week against the Arizona Cardinal when he took a helmet shot. He returned to the game but was off the field for the 49ers final drive. He missed practice all this past week and was listed as doubtful for the game.

Celek opened training camp on the PUP list with a back injury. He had surgery during the offseason, but was unable to return for camp and opened the season on the PUP List.

Fantasy football analysis: 49ers tight ends

Ross Dwelley is likely to get the start tonight, with Celek and Levine Toilolo behind him on the depth chart. Celek likely will eventually return to his role as a blocking tight end in two tight end sets, but the 49ers will work him back slowly. None of these are great starting options for the time being, although if you’re stuck with them for tonight, Dwelley is the guy to play.

Kittle’s status for Week 11 is still to be determined. Given that he did not practice all week, that Wednesday practice report will be a big one for seeing what his chances are for next weekend.
