What to do with Joe Mixon in Week 10 fantasy football

Joe Mixon has found the end zone twice over the last two weeks, raising his total touchdowns to Three on the season. In his previous two games, he has 32 touches for 81 total yards and those two scores. Mixon ranks 28th in the league for running backs with 15 touches per game, which is usually good enough for a flex start at least.

On the season, he’s managed .67 PPR fantasy points per touch. For comparison, Austin Ekeler averages 1.32 points per touch on his 15. Another troubling fact is that Giovani Bernard sees a significant percentage of snaps in hurry-up, passing situations. On the year, Mixon averages 53 percent of the snaps to Bernard’s 45 percent. This split limits Mixon’s upside in PPR and overall due to reduced work.

This week Mixon faces a Ravens team that ranks tenth-best in fantasy points allowed to running backs, but that stat is somewhat misleading, as the Ravens have given up the fifth-fewest rushing yards and the fifth-most rushing touchdowns. Teams aren’t running the ball because Baltimore leads the league in points per game with 31.4, and opposing offenses end up throwing the ball to try to make up ground. That scenario has been the Bengals default position on offense, as their defense gives up 26.2 points per game, putting them into passing situations early.

On the season, the Bengals have thrown the ball the second-most in the league and rank 31st in rushing attempts. If Mixon were in on more passing downs, he could weather the storm, but he isn’t, so he doesn’t.
