Week 6 brings a difficult week of byes for fantasy football owners. We break down the top 50 running backs in standard leagues.

Author’s Update 10/12/19 9:00 am.: After reviewing the Friday injury reports we have removed Todd Gurley (doubtful) from the rankings and moved Los Angeles Rams backup rushers Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson Jr. up. David Johnson seems more likely to play and he has been moved up. We’ve also removed the players from Thursday nights’s game.

Week 6 rankings have been updated to reflect a flurry of injury news for running backs. Both Todd Gurley and David Johnson are in serious trouble of missing their Sunday games and they have been lowered out of the top 24. Backups Malcolm Brown and Chase Edmonds have been moved up. Finally, Rex Burkhead has been ruled out of his Thursday game and Los Angeles Rams backup Darrell Henderson Jr. has been added.

Alvin Kamara’s questionable tag will be updated as we learn more.

Did you start Aaron Jones in Week 5 fantasy football? Great! Did you start Christian McCaffery? Awesome! Did you start them both? Can I borrow some of that money? The Green Bay and Carolina running backs led the way with multiple touchdown games that certainly won a few daily fantasy contests in Week 5. Josh Jacobs and Matt Brieda weren’t too far behind with their two touchdown performances. The biggest disappointment was Melvin Gordon’s season debut. He’ll likely start to see more snaps as the season progresses.

There are four teams on bye in Week 6 so we’ll be looking for alternatives to Frank Gore, Devin Singletary, David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Marlon Mack and Josh Jacobs. The injury bug struck again in Week 5 claiming Wayne Gallman (who will likely miss his Thursday night game) and David Johnson’s back “locked up” on him. It doesn’t sound like he will miss any time, but monitor his practice reports as the week continues.

The hunt for Week 6 running backs with plus matchups starts in Detroit. Kerryon Johnson returns to action after his Week 5 bye and faces a Green Bay defense that has allowed the third most points to running backs thus far. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option then you can try Wayne Gallman’s suspected replacement, Jon Hilliman, who should see a significant bump in work.
