The New York Giants face the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in Week 6, and rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will be short-handed in the passing game. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, according to NFL Network reporter Kimberly Jones.
Shepard reportedly did not experience symptoms until Monday morning, and showed up on the injury report. Jones is reporting that because of his recent concussion history, Shepard “is expected to miss considerable time.”
Fantasy football analysis, New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard
This news comes just as the team has gotten Golden Tate back from his four-game suspension. Tate had three receptions for 13 yards, and it was Darius Slayton who emerged as a go-to option for Jones. He finished with four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown, while Shepard finished with five receptions for 49 yards.
Slayton seemed like a bit of a fool’s gold waiver option from that performance, but with Shepard expected to miss time, he’s suddenly an intriguing waiver option if you’ve got some priority. It’s not a great matchup with New England, but if the Giants are playing catch-up, Slayton could be a volume play on Thursday.
