Spread picks for every NFL game in Week 5

Welcome to Week 5 of the 2019 NFL season! My picks have been fairly miserable of late, but it’s at least been a fun NFL season. The New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Francisco 49ers all sit undefeated through the first quarter of the season. The Miami Dolphins remain on track to go winless, although the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington seem open to pushing them on that front!

I went 5-10 against the spread in Week 4, leaving me at 28-35 on the season. And it wasn’t even like I was particularly close and lost some tough beats. It was just some bad picking all around for me.

I’ve sprinkled in my wagers throughout the week, getting some favorable lines where I can. The first bet I grabbed was Vikings -4.5 vs. the Giants, with the line up to -5 now. Kirk Cousins is a mediocre quarterback, but he can look good against bad teams. In spite of Daniel Jones’ start, the Giants are a bad team, and I think they come back to earth a bit in Week 5.

I grabbed the Patriots -9 in the first half against Washington. I am tempted by the full game spread, but I could see a strong first half for the Patriots and then a late back-door cover for Washington. I also grabbed the 49ers -3.5 against the Browns. Both teams are dealing with injury issues, but Kyle Shanahan has the clear advantage over Freddie Kitchens. Finally, I’ve got the Panthers at -3.5 against Jacksonville. If I’d waited I could have got -3, but I can live with this.
