The NFL is back for Week 5, and it’s time to figure out your fantasy football starting lineups for Sunday. Chris Carson and Todd Gurley both had monster days, but the rest of us need to figure out what to do at the position.
Regardless of how you did in your draft, there’s a decent chance you have questions of depth at the running back position. If you’re coming up to the wire with questions, we want to provide a few options to consider, many of whom might still be available in your league. All ownership percentages come via ESPN.
Carlos Hyde, Houston Texans
Hyde is a low ceiling, high floor running back. Atlanta’s defense is better against the run than the pass, but it’s still been a rough all around season for the Falcons. If your weekly projections suggest a close matchup or an easy win, Hyde is a great start for consistency’s sake. If you’re facing someone who had Chris Carson or Russell Wilson and you’re in a big early deficit, you might want to consider a higher upside back.
Chris Thompson, Washington
There are weekly questions about whether or not to start Thompson. If you are in a PPR league, he’s not always a must start, but odds are good he’s worth having in your lineup. He’ll never be a great option in standard leagues, but with Washington’s offensive struggles, the short passing game could be where it’s at. And with Colt McCoy in place, I have a feeling Thompson will be busy.
Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts
Even if Marlon Mack plays, Hines is a good PPR start on Sunday Night Football. The Colts will need every option they can find against the high flying Kansas City Chiefs. Hines is not a valuable standard option, but in PPR leagues, look for him to build on his six reception effort last week.
