Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Andy Dalton was incredibly disappointing in a spot where some had high hopes for him last week. That’s pretty much been Dalton’s modus operandi these past few seasons: perform well when no one has exposure, then completely fall apart when there’s any level of expectation. He’s essentially the quarterback version of a tree falling in the woods, expect instead of falling when no one’s around to hear it, Dalton came up short on National Television in Week 4’s loss to the Steelers on Monday Night Football. Despite entering the tilt leading the AFC in drop backs (141) and third in the NFL in passing yards per game (326.3), Dalton finished just 21-of-37 for 171 yards and an interception. It was ugly.

However, maybe the biggest issues was offensive line play. Dalton had no time to pass throughout the 27-3 loss, eventually being brought down for a sack on eight different occasions. This isn’t something that’s likely to get better, either. First-round pick Jonah Williams is out for the season, Clint Boling retired, and Cordy Glenn has already been ruled out of this weekend’s contest with the Cardinals as he continues to deal with concussion-based issues. The Bengals are currently one of only six teams allowing an adjusted sack rate of over 10.0% across the first four weeks of 2019. Dalton’s still mostly to blame for his constant ability to underwhelm, yet he’s certainly not getting much assistance.

Arizona’s surrendered the second-most fantasy points to opposing QBs through the opening month of the season; the most if you’re only counting teams that are actively attempting to win football games. At 72.3 percent, Cincinnati leads its conference in passing rate. This is truly a match made in heaven for Dalton. An opportunity to go up against a vulnerable defense in a high-paced script with all the volume in the world. I’m ready to get burnt again. I’m more than willing to utilize Dalton in all formats. Heck, his depressing showing six days ago might keep his ownership deflated in GPPs on DraftKings.
