I know you won’t believe me when I write this, but Jameis Winston’s 2019 season has seen him steadily improve each week. No bouncy outcomes. No peaks and valleys. All a smooth uphill curve toward his ultimate performance in Week 4. But we all know what Winston is capable of. He can throw three or four touchdowns as easily as he can finish with one and a couple or three interceptions any given game. So far this season, though, he has cut down on his errors, and after a three-interception game in the opener he has thrown just two in the past three weeks. Through Week 4 (QBs with min. 50 pass attempts), Winston ranks fourth in touchdowns (nine), fifth in passing yards (1,167), and sixth in yards per attempt (8.40). Winston has also added 24 yards on the ground, although he seems to have limited that part of his game so far.
Not only is Winston performing at a QB1 level, he’s also surrounded by two of the best receivers in the league this year. Winston finished Week 3 with 29.3 fantasy points, helped by a monster performance from Mike Evans (190 receiving yards for three touchdowns). He completed his Week 4 game helping Chris Godwin reach 172 yards and two touchdowns and Evans get to 89 yards for a score. Tampa Bay’s offense is as well oiled as ever even with O.J. Howard missing in action. There will be a time when Winston upsets his owners — we know it’s coming — but in four games he has yet to put on less than 15 fantasy points and this week’s matchup against the Saints can’t be more appealing.

It can be said Winston has already played the toughest part of his schedule excluding Carolina in Week 6. After the Buccaneers go on a bye in Week 7, they’ll only face two above-average defenses in 10 games (Tennessee and Detroit). What I’m saying is you should grab Winston if he’s available, or hold onto him if he’s already on your roster. Even more so this week facing a Saints defense that hasn’t looked any good at stopping opposing QBs. Don’t be afraid of their last game and short-circuiting of Dak Prescott. Only the Dolphins are allowing more fantasy points per game to QBs, and good for Winston the Saints are one of the 12 teams with just two or fewer interceptions through four games. Winston, Godwin, and Evans might be the best offensive trio in the NFL right now. Take advantage of their abilities and the great matchup.
