Josh Gordon waivers update

The Seattle Seahawks are the winners of the Josh Gordon sweepstakes. Multiple national media are reporting they claimed him off waivers. He joins Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf to upgrading Russell Wilson’s passing game. Lockett leads the team with 46 receptions for 615 yards, while DK Metcalf is second with 23 receptions for 402 yards. Each of the two receivers has four touchdowns. Lockett is still a strong PPR presence, while Gordon probably downgrades Metcalf’s fantasy value a little bit.

Gordon has been claimed off waivers. We are awaiting word on which team successfully claimed him. All 31 other teams had the opportunity to place a waiver claim after the Patriots released him. They would taken the remaining two months of his contract to close out the season. The Patriots had placed Gordon on IR, but the thought at the time was that it would be a week or two before he could return to action.

The New England Patriots are set to release wide receiver Josh Gordon from their injured reserve list, according to multiple national media reports. The team placed Gordon on IR with a knee injury with the eventual plan of releasing him.

The release is actually a waiver, which means Gordon will have to go through the waiver wire for any of the other 31 teams to claim him. If he is claimed, that team picks up the remaining eight weeks of his $2,025,000 salary. If nobody claims Gordon, he becomes an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team around the league.

Teams can no longer make trades this season, so teams looking to add him to flip for a pick are not able to do so. Gordon is a free agent after this season, so they would not be able to trade him next offseason when the new league year starts.

Somebody is going to place a claim on him given the relatively inexpensive nature of his contract, It’s a matter of who when waivers processes on Friday.
