Washington travels to face the stout Buffalo Bills defense before going on bye, and it appears rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will get a crack at starting. Washington is back at practice on Thursday, and for the second straight day, Haskins is getting the first team snaps, per beat writer John Keim.
Haskins replaced Case Keenum in the starting lineup last Thursday after Keenum suffered a head injury. Keenum was 12 of 16 for 130 yards before the injury. Haskins completed three of five passes for 33 yards and an interception after replacing Keenum.
It’s worth noting Colt McCoy was No. 2 on the depth chart at Thurday’s practice, followed by Keenum, according to Keim. Keenum was listed as limited on the Wednesday injury report, which suggests he is still working his way through the concussion protocol.
Fantasy football analysis: QB Dwayne Haskins
If Keenum is unable to go, it appears Haskins will be the option ahead of McCoy. Fantasy options are not pretty in Washington, with Terry McLaurin the leading pass catcher and Adrian Peterson the leading guy on the ground. Running back Chris Thompson remains a DNP with a turf toe injury, leaving Wendell Smallwood as AP’s backup.
The Bills have given up the fifth fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks, but the 11th most to running backs. They rank sixth in defensive efficiency against the pass, but 28th against the run. I have to think Bill Callahan will come at them heavy with Peterson, especially if Haskins is in the game. AP is a solid fantasy start, McLaurin is an OK but not great start, and everybody else should be on your bench if they’re actually on your roster.
