What to do with Malcolm Brown in fantasy football for Week 5 TNF

Since Week 1, we’ve seen Malcolm Brown’s role slowly diminish in the Rams’ offense. We look at whether you should play or fade the backup RB in Week 5 vs. Seattle.

Everybody went into panic mode after Malcolm Brown vultured two TDs from Todd Gurley in Week 1. Many overreacted to the point of throwing a decent amount of their waiver wire budget at Brown in hopes he’d overtake Gurley. Well, we now know that wasn’t a very wise decision. In Weeks 2-4, Brown has combined for 58 yards on 14 carries and one reception for 10 yards. Yes, that’s a whopping 7.8 fantasy points, roughly 2.6 per game. Again, it’s Malcolm Brown people! We probably shouldn’t have ever believed Gurley’s knee was that concerning, let alone Brown would threaten his touches at all.

And after saying all of that above, I sort of like Brown this week, ironically. The Rams are on a short week playing on the road on Thursday Night Football. It’s a tough draw vs. Seattle, particularly considering the Seahawks have allowed just 79.5 yards per game on the ground this season. Gurley got the goal line work last week vs. the Bucs, but LA has stressed they want to keep their prized RB fresh throughout the season. So, on a short week, with that in mind, might we see a bit more Brown? It’s not out of the realm of possibility. It would be crazy for me to tell you to start Brown, so I won’t do that. But if you’re desperate and playing someone with Todd Gurley, maybe it’s worth a shot in the dark? If nothing else I don’t mind rolling out Brown in Showdown contests on DraftKings.
