Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert miss Tuesday practice, could mean Jeff Wilson time [UPDATE]

The 49ers have some question marks at running back heading into Week 9. We break down the fantasy football implications for Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson.

Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert injury status update

The 49ers have listed Breida and Mostert as questionable for Week 9 Thursday Night Football. Kyle Shanahan thinks they’ll play, but they will be game-time decisions.

The San Francisco 49ers are practicing on Tuesday in preparation for Week 9 Thursday Night Football, and they could be shorthanded in the backfield for the game. Running backs Matt Breida (ankle) and Raheem Mostert (quad) are not practicing. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media that if the team had to play today, it wouldn’t be good for either, but they’re optimistic for Thursday, per beat writer Matt Barrows.

Tevin Coleman remains the team’s starter and is coming off a monster performance in Week 8. He had 118 total yards with four touchdowns combined on the ground and through the air. Breida had 11 rushes for 35 yards, but left when he injured his ankle at the end of the second quarter. Mostert came on and finished with nine rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

If Mostert and Breida cannot play, or are limited, Jeff Wilson would get a boost in playing time. He had two rushes for six yards on Sunday, and is primarily a short yardage guy when everyone is healthy. He suffered a stinger, per Adam Schefter, but he was not on the team’s Tuesday injury report.

Fantasy football analysis: 49ers running backs

Tevin Coleman is a must start against the Cardinals. They’re giving up the ninth fewest fantasy points to running backs, but Coleman is going to get plenty of opportunities.

If Breida and Mostert are inactive, Wilson becomes an intriguing option because of how much the 49ers rotate running backs. If Breida and Mostert are active, he loses that value. Breida would be a decent flex start if healthy, but that is better suited for deeper leagues this week (or if you have bye week or injury issues). The 49ers No. 2 running back — whomever it is — offers some value given the 49ers rotation.
