The 49ers announced that Breida is questionable to return with an ankle injury. UPDATE: He did not return to the game.

Matt Breida injury update, 5:46 p.m.

UPDATE: The 49ers came in on offense and Breida remained on the bench while Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson were standing up on the sideline, per Matt Maiocco. Tevin Coleman was in the game, but the 49ers offense is off the field after a Panthers safety. So, we continue to wait for word on Breida.

Breida joined fellow running back Tevin Coleman on the sideline to start the third quarter, per Matt Maiocco. The 49ers defense is on the field first, so we’ll find out in a bit if Breida is having any issues. But given that he’s down there, it’s a good sign.

The San Francisco 49ers are crushing the Carolina Panthers in the first half of their Week 8 matchup, but they went into halftime with one negative. Breida got a carry on the final play off the half and after a defender landed hard on him, he was slow coming off the field. Per 49ers reporters, he was seen walking slowly to the tunnel with the team’s trainers.

Breida has been working behind Tevin Coleman, but in reality it’s a time share. In the first half, Breida had 11 rushes for 35 yards and one catch for 15 yards. Coleman had five rushes for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and added one ten-yard touchdown reception. They’ve been alternating to a certain extent, and Coleman is having the bigger half for now.

If Breida misses any snaps, Raheem Mostert would get the nod behind Coleman. It’s possible Breida simply had the wind knocked out of him when the defender landed on him, but we’ll likely find out at the start of the third quarter.
