A.J. Green thinks he’ll return in Week 10

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has been out since injuring his ankle at the start of training camp. He is targeting a return after the Bengals by week. We break down the fantasy football implications.

The Cincinnati Bengals face the Los Angeles Rams in London in Week 8, and then head into their bye week. When they return in Week 10, they are hoping to have wide receiver A.J. Green back in the lineup. Green told NFL Network reporter Omar Ruiz that he’s hopeful he can return after the bye, and “sounded confident he’ll be able to do so.” The Bengals host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10.

Green injured his ankle at the starting of training camp back in July and had to have surgery on torn ligaments. He has been sidelined since then but has started to get in practice work two of the past three weeks.

Fantasy football analysis, Bengals WRs A.J. Green, Auden Tate, Tyler Boyd

Green was a must-start receiver when healthy, but I’m not sure what to tell you about Week 10. The Ravens have struggled on defense, but added Marcus Peters recently. It’s a boost which improves their chances against top playmakers. But is Green still a top playmaker? If you have other options, it might be worth waiting a week to see if Green is back as a productive option, or if it might take some time. There’s three months of rust to shake off, and while I think he’ll be productive, production in that first game back is a tough one to predict.

When Green returns, Tyler Boyd remains a strong PPR option, and a decent standard option. Auden Tate would see the biggest drop in looks of the two, and when John Ross is healthy, even more so. Tate is still worth rostering and playing, but we’ll need to monitor his status as the Bengals receivers get healthy.
