Best lineup strategy for Chiefs vs. Packers in Week 8 SNF Showdown

Even with Patrick Mahomes on the sidelines, there are still plenty of intriguing plays in this slate

It’s not quite the matchup that football fans – and certainly NBC – were hoping for before Patrick Mahomes hurt his knee 10 days ago, but the show must go on and we still have an intriguing Showdown slate between Green Bay and Kansas City to decipher. Let’s look at some players to target in DraftKings’ $1 million six-man Showdown slate -- with an entry fee of $10 and a first-place prize of $250,000 -- and who to use in the critical Captain slot:

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS

Aaron Jones, QB, Green Bay Packers ($13,800)

All the Aarons on Green Bay are Captain-worthy this week, and it’s certainly hard to argue against a guy who threw five touchdown passes last week. But with Rodgers priced all the way up to $18,000 in the Captain chair, and the Packers playing on the road in a game they might well control with Matt Moore running the offense for the Chiefs, this feels like a game-script dominated by the Packers running game. The Chiefs have been bottom third in the league against the run all season, and the savings Jones provides could prove critical in building the rest of your roster.

CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS

Matt Moore, QB, Kansas City Chiefs ($12,000)

With Sammy Watkins returning off a multi-week injury and Tyreek Hill back in midseason form, there is certainly a chance for Moore to defy expectations and put up a big number in a game that should have plenty of offense. Moore hooked up with Hill in relief of Mahomes 10 days ago and now that’s he’s had the extra time to work with the first-team offense, he should be able to put up a decent showing with the crowd behind him. Stacking the Chiefs offense is probably the contrarian path to glory here.

FLEX MEN

Tyreek Hill, WR, Kansas City Chiefs ($10,000)

If you believe in Moore, then Hill is also a good Captain’s choice ($15,000), as he has shown in the past two games, scoring three touchdowns, including one on a 57-yard pass from Moore in Week 7. He’s a slate-breaker any time he takes the field and the Packers do give up plenty of passing-game production, so as long as Moore doesn’t crumble, Hill is going to be a factor.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, Green Bay Packers ($7,600)

MVS appears to be as healthy as he’s been all season and he looked pretty good last Sunday, hauling in two passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. With Davante Adams set to miss another game with a toe injury, Valdez-Scantling should remain Rodgers’ top target.
