Editor’s update: Every indication is that Drew Brees will start.
There’s an interesting situation brewing in New Orleans this week. Quarterback Drew Brees could be coming back. He is officially listed as questionable on the injury report, and the team is being awfully cagey about whether Brees will start or Teddy Bridgewater will get one more week under center. Saturday evening, ESPN reported that Brees is expected to start Sunday vs. the Cardinals.
That’s more than a little frustrating for fantasy football decision making. When he’s playing, Brees is a must start every week, not to mention the skill players around him. But we probably won’t know until Sunday morning.
Brees has been out since getting hurt in a Week 2 loss to the Rams. But his thumb is good enough now that he’s throwing again, and apparently pushing hard to play this week against the Cardinals. But here’s the thing — the Saints are 5-0 in their past five games without him. And playing against the Cardinals, they can afford to leave him on the bench to get another week to get right ahead of a bye next week.
But will they?
Fantasy football analysis, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees
All game-time decisions are a pain, but this one really is. It doesn’t help that Alvin Kamara is a game-time decision as well. Michael Thomas is always a must-start in traditional fantasy, but his stats would get a huge boost with Brees back. His $8,000 salary on DK this week is high, but a bargain if Brees does play against the Cardinals.
You’ll just have to watch for now, but at least we know he’ll be back soon enough.
