Worst running back DFS plays in Week 8

When building your DFS lineups this week, these are the running backs you should be avoiding.

As the most expensive position in daily fantasy sports, you have to be very careful with exactly which running backs you put into your lineups. Spending a lot of your budget on a back who ultimately gets you nothing obviously can destroy all your hard work.

I’m here to help avoid that.

Here are three running backs you should be avoiding in DFS this week either because they won’t perform to their cost or they’re destined to just have a really bad game. (Salaries via DraftKings.)

Christian McCaffrey (@ 49ers) - $9,200

Not having Christian McCaffrey in your DFS lineup might seem like a terrible idea given that he’s averaging 31.7 fantasy points per game. But this week he faces his toughest matchup yet, facing off against a 49ers defense that is allowing the fewest fantasy points to running backs and hasn’t allowed a single rushing or receiving touchdown this season to the position. McCaffrey is still going to put forward some numbers because he’s an MVP candidate, but he’s not going to perform to the cost of his salary. Best spend your money else where, like Saquon Barkley facing the Lions’ 30th-ranked run defense.

Nick Chubb (@ Patriots) - $6,600

Chubb finds himself in a very similar situation as McCaffrey. While he’s much, much cheaper, he’s still going up against the buzzsaw that is the Patriots’ defense. Like the 49ers, the Patriots haven’t allowed a rushing or receiving touchdown to running backs yet this year. I hope for the sake of fantasy owners everywhere the Browns come out of their bye with their offense figured out, but I don’t trust the changes to come into immediate effect vs. the Patriots on the road.

Chase Edmonds (@ Saints) - $6,200

Edmonds might be a popular name to add this week after his three touchdown performance against the Giants last Sunday. However, Edmonds faces a vastly superior run defense this week as he’s set to face off against a Saints defense that’s allowing the seventh-fewest rushing yards to the position. Don’t be surprised if Edmonds follows up his big game with a dud of a one Sunday. I’d hate for that to sink your fantasy squad.
