Matt Ryan to be a Week 8 game-time decision with ankle injury

The Falcons have a decision to make with Matt Ryan in Week 8. We break down the fantasy implications of his injury heading into the weekend.

The Atlanta Falcons are going to wait until this weekend to make a decision on their quarterback position for Week 8. Matt Ryan suffered a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter last week and was replaced by Matt Schaub. Ryan went through warmups on Friday, but has otherwise not been able to do much at practice.

Head coach Dan Quinn told the media he will be questionable and a final decision will come on game day, per beat writer Vaughn McClure. The team will have a walkthrough on Saturday, which will go a long way to determining his game status.

Fantasy football analysis, Falcons QB Matt Ryan

If you are counting on Ryan in fantasy football, be prepared to have a backup ready. Schaub is not the best option, but there are worse quarterbacks out there. And if you’re in a two-QB league, Schaub would be a solid start given the needs in that kind of setup.

If you have other Falcons players, their value takes a hit, but it’s hard to say how much. Schaub knows the offense backwards and forwards and can make plays as needed. He’s a clear step down from Ryan, however, so you have to assume most everyone will not be quite their top value this weekend if he plays. Julio Jones and Austin Hooper remain must-starts, but everybody else should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
