Top 25 tight ends in Week 8 fantasy football [UPDATE]

The tight end position has some high octane names up top, and then a whole lot of question marks down below. We break down the top 25 tight ends for Week 8 fantasy football.

10/26 rankings update

Rankings have been updated with the release of Friday’s practice reports and the Thursday night players have been removed. Jared Cook, O.J. Howard and Delanie Walker have been ruled out. Foster Moreau, Jonnu Smith and Cameron Brate have been moved up the rankings.

It took seven weeks but it finally happened. Darren Waller scored a touchdown. Then he scored another! Waller had respectable reception and yardage totals in his first 5 games, but he broke through in a big way against the Green Bay Packers. Week 7 also saw Kyle Rudolph get his first touchdown of the season. Turns out he didn’t retire.

Week 8 is light on injury and bye weeks for fantasy football tight ends. Tennessee Titans veteran, Delanie Walker, will likely miss a game or two after he aggravated an ankle injury. Jonnu Smith will take his place in the lineup. We’ll also have to monitor practice reports for Vernon Davis and Chris Herndon. Both missed their games last week, but could play in Week 8. If you’ve been relying on Mark Andrews you’ll need to find an alternative since he is on bye week. That alternate won’t be Jason Witten who is also on break.

If he can get cleared to play then Jared Cook has a lovely matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. If you’re streaming the position (most of you) or if you need a cheap tight end for DraftKings (again, most of you) Darren Fells makes a lot of sense. He plays the woeful Oakland Raiders defense who have given up the 5th most points to tight ends this season. The same thinking applies to Noah Fant who may be a bigger factor in Denver’s passing attack with Emmanuel Sanders out of town.
