The 2019 World Series is officially upon us! The Houston Astros will face off against the Washington Nationals and after a season of the long ball and concerns about juiced baseballs, the Fall Classic brings a matchup of the two best pitching staffs in the game.
The World Series gets underway Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. on FOX. The Astros host the first two games at Minute Maid Park. The Nationals host Games 3-5 at Nationals Park and Game 6 and 7 would be back at Minute Maid Park.
The Astros will send out Gerrit Cole in Game 1 to face Max Scherzer. Game 2 will feature Justin Verlander vs. Stephen Strasburg. Game 3 will see Patrick Corbin take the mound in DC to face Zack Greinke.
Houston has been heavy favorites to get to the playoffs all season long, and were the World Series favorite at the open of October. They beat the Tampa Bay Rays in five games in the ALDS and then beat the New York Yankees in six games in the ALCS.
Washington entered the postseason as the top wild card team. They beat the Milwaukee Brewers after trailing 3-0, thanks to a huge error on a Juan Soto shot to left field. In the NLDS, they beat the heavily favored Los Angeles Dodgers in five, once again rallying from a three-ru deficit in the deciding game to win in extra innings. The NLCS was a relative snoozer compared to the first two rounds, with the Nationals trouncing the St. Louis Cardinals in a four game sweep.
The Astros are a -235 favorite to win the World Series at DraftKings Sportsbook, making them the biggest favorite since the 2007 Boston Red Sox.
