If you’re a DFS player, you know that a successful lineup has to have a solid combination of big-name star power players that are known commodities with a few high-upside players that provide a little more bang for your buck.

If you pay up for a big name in your daily fantasy lineup, you definitely cannot afford for that player to put up a dud of a game in your lineup.

So here are the running backs that will likely provide some of the best and worst value for Week 8. (Values from DraftKings).

BEST: Todd Gurley (LAR) - $7,400

Todd Gurley remains an enigma in 2019, but he looked healthy last week against the Atlanta Falcons. He registered a season-high 18 carries and caught another ball for 13 yards and a touchdown. Coming into the season, Gurley was a consensus top tier running back, and his DFS price tag reflected similarly out of the game. Now, he’s still in the top five, but he’s $1,800 cheaper than the most expensive running back available in daily fantasy this week. Against the 2nd-worst rushing defense in the Cincinnati Bengals, Gurley might not come as cheaply again.

WORST: David Johnson (ARI) - $6,400

The Arizona Cardinals are not as fortunate as the Los Angeles Rams, as they are taking on the New Orleans Saints talented defense front. The Saints have gone an incredible 33-straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher, and it’s unlikely that trend gets broken at home. Add in the injury concerns for Johnson (who’s coming off just a single carry last week against the New York Giants), and there are too many red flags saying to stay away from DJ this week.

BEST: Melvin Gordon (LAC) - $5,400

Melvin Gordin didn’t have a great game (to say the least) against the Tennessee Titans last week. If the Los Angeles Chargers want to bounce back in 2019, they will need to get Gordon going sooner rather than later. What looked like a tough matchup when the schedule was originally announced, the Chargers’ Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears doesn’t appear nearly as daunting. The Bears have given up 242 yards on the ground the last two weeks and given up four touchdowns to Josh Jacobs and Latavius Murray, both of whom found success running up the gut against the Bears. While the Chargers still have Austin Ekeler, he’s more of an outside runner and Gordon will likely be the back used running between the tackles.

WORST: Derrick Henry (TEN) - $6,000

The New Orleans Saints aren’t the only NFC South team with an above-average rushing defense. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have also been great against the run in 2019, holding NFC South rival running backs to mediocre games. Christian McCaffrey was held to 37 yards and Alvin Kamara only rushed for 62 yards. The Tennessee Titans don’t have quite the offenses as the ones in Carolina and New Orleans, and Henry is far from the caliber of running back as Run CMC and Kamara, so it’s hard to imagine Henry is able to put up any better numbers in Week 8 as the Titans host the Bucs.
