Best, Worst Week 8 wide receiver DFS values

The Seahawks and Falcons game has plenty of big name wide receivers, but there’s one you should start and one you should avoid this week.

If you’re a DFS player, you know that a successful lineup has to have a solid combination of big-name star power players that are known commodities with a few high-upside players that provide a little more bang for your buck.

If you pay up for a big name in your daily fantasy lineup, you definitely cannot afford for that player to put up a dud of a game in your lineup.

So here are the wide receivers that will likely provide some of the best and worst value for Week 8. (Values from DraftKings).

BEST: Tyler Lockett (SEA) - $7,000

For Tyler Lockett and the Seattle Seahawks, it’s all about the matchup this week. The Seahawks are set to face off against the dumpster fire that is the Atlanta Falcons defense. It just seems right now like the Falcons defense has quit on head coach Dan Quinn, and you know the Seahawks are looking to get right on the road after getting thoroughly beat by Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at home.

WORST: Julio Jones (ATL) - $7,700

Sticking with that game, it’s hard to trust Julio and the Atlanta Falcons offense. Julio has consistently put up solid numbers if only in garbage time so far this season, but his problem this week goes beyond inconsistent garbage time. Aaron Donald, the grim reaper for starting quarterbacks in the NFC South, injured Matt Ryan’s ankle last week with Ryan likely to miss at least one game as he recovers. Even if Ryan were to be healthy, it’s still hard to trust Julio as the third-most expensive wide receiver in daily fantasy this week, but without Ryan? Stay away.

BEST: Kenny Golladay (DET) - $6,400

Like with Julio and Matt Ryan, it’s an injury to a teammate that affects Golladay’s fantasy prognosis for Week 8. Fortunately for Golladay’s fantasy owners, the injury was not to his starting quarterback, but to his running back Kerryon Johnson. With Johnson set to miss “some time” due to injury, it will likely mean the Detroit Lions will be forced to lean more heavily on Matthew Stafford, Golladay, and the Detroit passing attack. They have a favorable matchup this week against the New York Giants and the 8th-worst defense against opposing wide receivers, so it might not be a bad thing that Stafford will be asked to air it out.

WORST: Michael Thomas (NO) - $8,000

Michael Thomas is the Patrick Peterson of wide receivers right now. Unfortunately, Patrick Peterson is the Patrick Peterson of cornerbacks, and he’s currently set to shadow Thomas all game in Week 8 as the Arizona Cardinals travel to the New Orleans Saints. It looks like Drew Brees will return this week, and you would think I would feel more confident in Thomas’s ability to put up good numbers against Peterson. However, Brees also elevates the play of everyone around him, so he might not need to force the ball Thomas’s way as often as Teddy Bridgewater was required to do.
