How to handle Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb injuries in Week 7 fantasy football [UPDATE]

The Cowboys’ receivers are expected to play this week despite injuries, but that doesn’t make them automatic starters in fantasy.

Amari Cooper injury status update

The Cowboys released their inactives for Week 7 Sunday Night Football, and they will have wide receivers Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb active. Both had been questionable, but were on the upswing with Friday practices and are good to go for tonight. If you were holding onto Tavon Austin for the game, you can bench him unless you have no other fantasy football options.

Both Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb are listed as questionable on the injury report this week. However, both wide receivers are expected to play when the Dallas Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. However, even if they do play, just how effective the pair of Cowboys receivers will be is a serious question given their injuries.

Cooper’s dealing with the same quad injury that had him limited last week. He tried to play against the New York Jets, but didn’t last more than a few snaps. He couldn’t even walk on Monday. Then, he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, before returning in a limited role on Friday. That’s a huge concern for a guy who’s one of the best receivers in fantasy ... when he’s healthy.

Cobb is dealing with a back injury, the same one that caused him to miss last week’s game. He didn’t practice this week either until getting limited work on Friday.

Fantasy football analysis, Dallas Cowboys WRs Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb

This is a real tough spot for fantasy decisions. Just how effective can Cooper be given the pain he’s obviously been dealing with this week. Cobb hasn’t really been an especially productive fantasy option all season when he has played, so that makes your decision with his status that much easier — i.e. leave him on the bench.

Michael Gallup is healthy, though. And with Cooper and Cobb both hurting, he can expect more work this week. He’s definitely worth getting into your lineups, but you’re playing Cooper at your own risk.
