The Dallas Cowboys’ season has been one of two opposite halves so far. They came guns blazing scoring 31 or more points in each of their first three games—all wins—but after that, they fell into a three-game losing streak still running in which they scored 24 points at most—with a season-low 10 against New Orleans. Head coach Jason Garrett probably has a lot to do with the team not finding its true pace, but if someone is going to burden the heaviest load of critics that will surely be Dak Prescott given his role as the leading man of the Cowboys. Truth be told, perhaps we jumped onto Dallas’ bandwagon too early and it is ultimately true that the Giants, Miami, and Washington were not the best teams to seize the team’s true level, and last week’s loss to the Jets might have proven it.
Turning to Prescott, I can say he’s not looked elite by any means. Other than his Week 1 game (405 yards and four touchdowns) against a bad Giants defense and the shootout versus Green Bay in Week 5 (463 yards for two touchdowns, with three interceptions), Prescott has been average at best. He’s throwing for an average of 262 yards, has yet to have a 30-plus completions game this year, and he could only score a touchdown—rushing—against the Jets in Week 6. While Dallas has been weakened by injuries this season and has had to field banged-up players in most games, Prescott has not been able to step up and keep the team in the fight.
Fantasy football analysis, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
Looking at the names of the two teams facing each other this weekend, I’d go with Prescott as my starting quarterback without any doubts. The Eagles secondary has been almost non-existent this season. Philly is allowing 24.3 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and a league-worst 47.1—to go with 11 TDs—to wide receivers. There were concerns about Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb, but both appear set to play on Sunday — along with tackles La’el Collins and Tyron Smith. Given the Eagles struggles defending the pass, this matchup bodes well for Dak.
