The New York Giants will not have running back Saquon Barkley available for at least a couple more weeks, but the stud second-year rusher is showing signs of progress. Barkley was spotted stretching and working with the training staff, shown on this video by Giants reporter Art Stapleton. He was doing light running and change of direction work.
Initial reports suggested a timeline of four to eight weeks to completely recover. The Giants want to be conservative in this, but Barkley thinks he can beat even the optimistic side of the timeline.
Fantasy football analysis of New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley
Barkley is not back at practice yet, so he is clearly not going to play in Week 5. He suffered the injury in Week 3, and a four week return would potentially have him back for Week 7 when the Giants host the Arizona Cardinals. New York does not have a bye until Week 11, so there would be no extra week to fit in if he was close at that one month mark. Following the Cardinals game, the Giants travel to Detroit, host Dallas, and then face the Jets.
In the meantime, Wayne Gallman remains the team’s starter. In Week 4, he rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, and added 55 yards and another touchdown. He ranks No. 16 in our standard RB rankings and No. 17 in our PPR RB rankings for Week 5 in a matchup with the stout Minnesota Vikings defense.
