Editor’s update: Mahomes did not suffer any significant additional damage to his dislocated knee cap, per NFL Network. Here’s a look at a potential timeline.

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a devastating loss in Week 7 when quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a knee injury on Thursday Night Football. Mahomes is undergoing an MRI and we are awaiting word on his status, but he is expected to miss at least three weeks with the injury. If the MRI reveals ligament damage and he requires surgery, he could be done for the season.

While we await further word, Chiefs and Mahomes odds are changing. DraftKings Sportsbook updated their Chiefs-related odds, and have dinged their Super Bowl 54 odds from +900 to +1100. Their odds of winning the AFC title game moved from +350 to +450. Additionally, Mahomes’ odds to win NFL MVP are now +1400. His odds had been +250 prior to the game. Finally, the Chiefs are still favorites to win the AFC West at -335, but did drop from -400. They are 5-2, sitting a game ahead of the Oakland Raiders who travel to face the Green Bay Packers this weekend.

The Super Bowl odds did not change much in part because we don’t know how much time Mahomes will miss. If he misses the low end estimate of three weeks, there’s an excellent chance they’d still be leading the AFC West when he returns. If he has season-ending surgery, they would be dropped significantly. The sportsbook does not want to overextend itself until they know for sure that Mahomes may or may not miss the rest of the season. Odds will be updated accordingly as more information arrives.
