Gruden: Tyrell Williams foot injury is plantar fasciitis

Raiders WR Tyrell Williams is dealing with plantar fasciitis and might be in line for an extended absence. We break down the latest news and fantasy football implications heading into Week 7.

The Oakland Raiders acquired wide receiver Zay Jones last week in a trade with the Buffalo Bills, and he might find himself busy sooner rather than later in the passing game. The team returned to practice following their Week 6 bye, and wide receiver Tyrell Williams’ foot injury is not showing enough improvement. Williams sat out the London game against Chicago, and now head coach Jon Gruden told media that Williams has plantar fasciitis, and “it’s not getting much better,” according to Raiders reporter Anthony Galaviz.

The Raiders relied heavily on Josh Jacobs in Week 5, rushing him 26 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Trevor Davis, Keelan Doss, and Hunter Renfrow got the receiver work, but two of the top three pass catchers in London were tight ends Foster Moreau and Darren Waller.

Fantasy football analysis, Raiders WR Tyrell Williams

Jones might be worth a flier in the deepest leagues, but there’s no justification for starting any Raiders wide receivers against a fairly solid Packers pass defense. If you’re not in a 16+ team league, you should stay away from their receivers.

As for Williams? He’s not someone to drop yet given his productivity prior to injury, but he’ll likely be occupying a bench spot for a little while moving forward.
