Alvin Kamara injury update 10/16 5:25 p.m.

The Saints completed their first practice of Week 7, and were without running back Alvin Kamara. Previous reports had him as likely to be limited with a “high ankle-type issue” but there was optimism he’d be able to play this week. Instead, he was a DNP on Wednesday, which is not a good start to the practice week. If Kamara cannot play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, Latavius Murray would get the start. The Bears are a stout defense, but Josh Jacobs ran all over them in London two weeks ago. Murray would be a must start if Kamara ends up inactive.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara played through an ankle injury in Week 6, and now it sounds like the injury could be worse than previously stated. Kamara is dealing with an injury along the lines of a high ankle sprain, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero. Kamara will be limited in practice this week, but Pelissero is reporting “Kamara still thinks he has a shot to play Sunday.”

Kamara injured his ankle last Thursday and was listed as limited that day and a DNP the next day. He was listed as questionable but was able to play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He rushed 11 times for 31 yards and caught seven passes for 35 yards.

Fantasy football analysis, Saints RB Alvin Kamara

Pelissero described it as “a high ankle-type issue,” which is an odd phrasing. A high ankle sprain can cost a player upwards of a month or two, so who knows what exactly this means for fantasy owners. If you have Latavius Murray, you’ll likely be waiting until Sunday inactives to get a better handle on this situation.

The Saints first injury report arrives on Wednesday, and we’ll likely be keeping a close eye on all three reports this week.
