Sammy Watkins could return from injury for Week 7 TNF

Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins injured his hamstring in Week 5 and it cost him Week 6. It now sounds like there is optimism he could play in Week 7. We break down the fantasy football implications.

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to face the Denver Broncos on a short Week 7, and they might get back a big weapon. A day removed from Tyreek Hill’s huge return, the team is optimistic wide receiver Sammy Watkins could play on Thursday a week and a half removed from a hamstring injury, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.

Watkins did not practice at all this week and was listed as doubtful on the final injury report. He sat out the loss to Houston, but Hill offered plenty in his return. He had five receptions and led all receivers in the game with 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Fantasy football analysis, Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins

If Watkins can play on Thursday Night Football, it raises all sorts of questions about some recent solid fantasy performers. Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, and Byron Pringle were limited in Hill’s return. Hardman had four receptions for 45 yards, Pringle had two receptions for 24 yards, and Robinson was targeted four times but had no catches to show for it.

If you add Watkins into the mix, at least two of those three players are likely to see very few targets. The Chiefs have a prolific offense, but with tight end Travis Kelce and runnings backs Damien Williams, LeSean McCoy, and Darrel Williams in the mix, there’s just too many mouths to feed. Hill and Watkins are the top two wide receivers for fantasy owners, and anybody else is going to be guess work.
