What to do with Will Dissly, Amari Cooper, James Conner on injury report [UPDATE]

Emmanuel Sanders injury update 10:47 a.m.

Ian Rapoport is reporting there is a lot of optimism for Emmanuel Sanders to play on Thursday against the Chiefs. Sanders was on the team’s practice report this past week with the knee issue, and it resulted in a downgrade from full participation on Thursday to limited on Friday. He played the first half, but the pain was too much and so the team shut it down at halftime. But it sounds like he could be ready to go on the short week Thursday Night Football.

Amari Cooper injury update 7:39 a.m.

Ian Rapoport is reporting that wide receiver Amari Cooper suffered a thigh bruise in the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 6 loss to the New York Jets. Rapoport said that there is no indication of long-term damage and it becomes more a question of general pain management. The Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7 on Sunday Night Football. Jason Garrett will meet with the media on Monday, and the team will release their first injury report on Wednesday.

The NFL is rolling through Week 6, and the fantasy football injury report is a little lighter than normal for the time being. We’ll keep an eye out for more injuries, but regardless, we have some question marks and opportunities for your fantasy football rosters.

We’ve still got Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football to go, so this list could grow. But in the meantime, it’s time to start considering your waiver wire options for Week 7 of your fantasy football leagues. Below is a rundown of notable injuries, and who stands to benefit as you consider what to do with your waiver wire priority.

James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Conner suffered a quadricep injury in the fourth quarter and left for the second half of the quarter. When he went down, he had 119 total yards and a touchdown while leading the team in receptions and receiving yards. Benny Snell replaced him and for the game rushed 17 times for 75 yards and added a 14-yard reception. We’ll see what news Monday brings on his status for Week 7.

Mike Williams, WR, Los Angeles Chargers

Williams came up gimpy with just over two minutes left in the game. He appeared to injure his leg and had to hobble off the field. It was too late for any kind of significant update, so we’ll have to wait for Monday to find out if it’s serious, or was just a quick thing.

Will Dissly, TE, Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks suffered a brutal loss in the second quarter of their win over Cleveland. Will Dissly went down with a non-contact injury to his Achilles. Russell Wilson was targeting him for the first time in the game at the time of the injury. Dissly was quickly ruled out, and after the game, head coach Pete Carroll said it was a serious injury and it’s a big loss. We’ll want to wait for further confirmation, but it sounds like Dissly could be done for the year. Luke Willson is the Seahawks backup tight end, but is not worth adding in fantasy football.

Amari Cooper, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Cooper left Sunday’s game in the first half with a quadricep injury. He was initially announced as questionable to return, but ruled out in the second half. He had been dealing with a quadricep injury during the week of practice, but was removed from the final injury report after three straight limited practices. It remains to be seen if he’ll miss any time, but if he does, Michael Gallup becomes the No. 1 wide receiver. Tavon Austin picks up a little value, as do Cedrick Wilson and Devin Smith, but none of the three offer much for fantasy purposes.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos

UPDATE 8:58 p.m.: Sanders’ injury is not believed to be serious, according to NFL Network reporter James Palmer. He is reporting that the team does not think it will cost him time, and that he will be available on Thursday when they face the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.

Sanders had a quiet first half and then was ruled out with a knee injury as the Broncos returned from halftime. He was targeted three times and had one catch for zero yards. We’ll await additional word on the injury, at which point we’ll know how serious this is. In the meantime, Courtland Sutton is the Broncos No. 1 receiver, and DaeSean Hamilton gets additional snaps in place of Sanders.
