Top defense DFS plays for Week 6

The top D/ST options to target on the 10-game Week 6 main slate.

It’s a weird week for D/ST on the DraftKings 10-game main slate. The Patriots, who’ve been the most dominant defense, host the Giants in primetime on Thursday. The Bears, arguably the next-best defense, are on bye this week, following a London performance.

In terms of offenses we like to target against for D/ST purposes, there just isn’t that much value in Week 6. The Cowboys ($4,300) are just too expensive on the road against a Jets offense that gets Sam Darnold back. Then Washington ($3,200) and the Dolphins ($2,700) square off against each other, making some decisions tougher to come to.

Here are the three D/ST plays that standout to me the most on the Week 6 main slate.

Jets (vs. DAL) — $1,500

With DK now offering up defenses for under $2,000, a whole new world of value opens up. Rostering the Jets for $1,500 opens up tons of roster flexibility, and it’s not even all that bad of a matchup. While the Cowboys gained yards last week against Green Bay, Packers D/ST scored 9.0 DKFP — picking off Day Prescott three times and sacking him three times.

D/ST plays can just be so random, which is why the Jets are averaging 10.8 DKFP per game. The two touchdowns in New England may’ve been a fluke, but even playing to its floor, Jets D/ST scored 5.0 DKFP getting blown out by the Browns, and most recently 4.0 DKFP getting blown out by the Eagles. Getting 5.0 points here would be welcomed.

49ers (@LAR) — $2,700

I was skeptical about the 49ers entering MNF, having played just three games against far inferior competition. While the Browns also may fall into that category, San Francisco was dominant enough defensively to change my mind. Because salaries for the next week are released prior to MNF, we still get a nice discount on this D/ST, following 19 DKFP vs. Cleveland.

Now averaging 15 DKFP through four games, a road game against the Rams will be the Niners’ stiffest test yet. That being said, Jared Goff has proven to be mistake prone, and the Rams’ offensive line can be a weakness. The defensive line of the 49ers is one of the strengths of the team, and should be able to get some sacks, and potentially force turnovers.

Washington (@MIA) — $3,200

This isn’t a defense we target often, but there are some encouraging signs here. Last week, the Washington D/ST still managed 5.0 DKFP, despite allowing 33 points to the Patriots. A week earlier, it scored 9.0 DKFP on the road against the Giants — proving it can do well against bad teams on the road.

Week 6 tees up the perfect matchup, going against the winless Dolphins, who’ve scored two total touchdowns this season. I’d prefer paying down for other options, but Washington does have a high ceiling given the matchup here.
