The New England Patriots are fairly thin at the tight end position, and they might be even thinner after Thursday Night Football. The team lost tight end Matt LaCosse to a knee injury and have announced he is questionable to return. Ryan Izzo is his backup.
The Patriots previously had Ben Watson on the roster, but elected to release him rather than activate him from the suspended list. He remains unsigned. Of course, they also had Rob Gronkowski last year before he retired this offseason. Gronk and Patriots owner Robert Kraft got tongues wagging when they would not shut the door on Gronk’s retirement.
Fantasy football analysis, Patriots TE Matt LaCosse
LaCosse and Izzo do not have fantasy value, so for that purposes, this is not super newsworthy. Where it gets interesting is if LaCosse misses any time and the team needs to bring in another tight end. Watson would be an easy addition, but I also have no doubt the rumors would grow further about Gronk unretiring. I’m skeptical he unretires, but you can never say never.
