Golden Tate activated to Giants roster

The Giants got another playmaker added to the roster for Week 5. We break down the fantasy implications of Golden Tate wrapping up his four week suspension.

The New York Giants remain without running back Saquon Barkley, but they have added a valuable weapon for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. The team activated wide receiver Golden Tate on Tuesday, following the conclusion of his four-game PED suspension. Tate was officially reinstated on Monday, but formally activated on Tuesday.

Fantasy impact: The news brings a big question about the offense. A rookie like Jones can never have too many weapons, but how will Tate fit into the offense? Tight end Evan Engram has been the top-targeted player (37), with Sterling Shepard (25) tops among their receivers. However, Bennie Fowler has emerged in recent weeks, and is right behind Shepard with 20 targets.

A year ago, Tate had 74 receptions for 795 yards and four touchdowns in time split between Detroit and Philadelphia. He started strong in his time with Detroit, hauling in 1,331 receiving yards in 2014, and surpassing 1,000 yards in each of 2016 and 2017. In this Giants offense, he likely has some initial value as a PPR option, but we’ll have to wait and see how they work him into the mix. He’s not a guy to start in his first game back, but keep an eye on him.
